The wanderer Part.1

BATAM, PT.1

Ferry in Setulang Laut jetty

saya original Malaysian
On the first month of January 2019, my family had a short trip to Batam,Indonesia and Singapore. Guess how we travelled there, by flight? Well nahh . We went there with the concept as bagpackers. So ya of course bag packing means everything independence to seek for low cost travelling with not consuming high budget.

First we went to Batam,we start our journey with my father drove us to Johor by car. In Johor we stayed a night in my uncle house in Kulai Jaya. The next day my uncle sent us to Setulang Laut. There we meet my father’s friends whose are actually expertise in so called bag packing holiday. So hehe not so independent actually.

We took ferry to from Setulang Laut to Batam. The fare was RM90 each for adults. It took approximately 2 hours to reach there. The weather was good and the scenery of the Strait of Johore.
In Batam, walked for 15 minutes to the hotel which been booked early. Actually, the hotel wasn’t far from the jetty.

Due to no internet circumstances, we misdirection from the course we were heading. Upon in the hotel lobby, the receptionist told us that
we can’t get into the room because it not the check in time yet. Such an unexpected plan, my father was talking to a local there who fortunately a tour guide there so called “Supir”. Hence, we took him as unplanned tour guide, which brought us with a van.

He then suggested the main attraction in Batam thus brought us to those places, but the first thing before doing anything, you must make sure not to leave an empty stomach. We stopped in a seafood restaurant along the way to Batam iconic bridge. The seafood there were super fresh because we can choose and catch what we wanna eat.
Then we headed to Barelang Bridge, the iconic of which connect the mainland with minor islands of Batam. Here there were hawkers selling fried seafood and most rare menu was deep fried stone crab sized like adult thigh. Then we went to a boutique that sell batik and merchandise by locals. Infront of it, there is a Great Admiral Cheng Ho monuments.
After that we proceeded to market place in Jalan Jodoh, most of the seller the sell used clothes and shoes. Nothing amazing there just full of rust and dust. We then entered a nearby mall, Ramayana mall, there I bought batik clothes which surprisingly cheaper than the boutique I when before but with more comfortable material.
It already night, then we took decision to back to the hotel. Along the way, we stopped at a Padang restaurant for dinner.
Lastly we check in the hotel room after a long day of sightseeing of Batam. Btw it a day before the election of Indonesian President. Prabowo vs Jokowi.

End of Part 1.
